In 2010 we took Overstock.com from a fixed 960px wide to full width or elastic/liquid layout. This was a massive undertaking. To make this even harder, we needed to still support IE6. We took this opportunity to do a complete recode of the front end and implement some aspects of responsive web design.

We decided on a minimum width of 960px and no maximum width. This complicated the design of all of our interface components because they had to stretch to fill the screen width and collapse appropriately to the smallest browser size.
