Overstock.com UI Component Library
While developing the second edition of Overstock.com’s style guide, I worked on developing a web component library for a team of around thirty designers. With so many people with hands in the creative basket, consistency was a major issue. Along with consistency, each designer having to create, and recreate conventions was a major time suck not only to designers, but for front-end developers.
Nothing solves these types of problems quite like a giant PSD of everything. We scrubbed the website for existing conventions, updated where necessary, and worked on many new conventions. Scroll bars, buttons, checkboxes, carousels, slideshows, headings, links, bread boxes – you name it, and we made it. Needless to say, designers were happy, developers were happy, and the site began its cohesion process.
